A little history
The name of the cottage, Les Coquelicots, is inspired by Audregnies’ deeply moving history. On 24 August 1914, the village was the scene of fighting during the Battle of Audregnies, a heroic episode of the British retreat at the start of the First World War.
In the fields scarred by the fighting, poppies have become a universal symbol of remembrance for soldiers who fell in battle. A fragile flower that grows again on disturbed ground, the poppy evokes sacrifice, restored peace and the renewal of nature.
By choosing this name, the cottage pays a quiet, poetic tribute to the village’s history, while reflecting the tranquillity and beauty of the countryside and keeping local memories alive.

The region has a rich and vibrant cultural and folk tradition. Roisin’s summer music events, theatre at the Château de Montignies-sur-Roc, Heritage Days, the Printemps des Artisans, Dour Festival and the Ducasse de Mons bring the seasons to life.
We also invite you to share in local and rural activities. Throughout the seasons, you can discover and experience farm work alongside us.
